Tour of Evergreen Cemetery for Rutherford County Heritage Month

This memorable, morning tour of Evergreen Cemetery will be offered on Saturday, October 4, at 10:00 a.m. as part of Rutherford County Heritage Month. Cemetery tours are departing from the entrance to cemetery on Greenland Drive.  Tickets may be pre-purchased on-line at www.oaklandsmansion.org, at Oaklands prior to event, or at the visitors center or cemetery the day of the tours.  Ticket costs are $5 per person. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Reservations are not required.In honor of Rutherford County Heritage Month, visitors are encouraged to also participate in cemetery tours and special programs at the Stones River National Battlefield and The Historic Sam Davis Home and Plantation. Military Demonstrations with the 9th KY Volunteer Infantry

Step into the past as you experience military demonstrations on the grounds of Oaklands plantation from the 9th KY Volunteer Infantry on Saturday, October 18, 2014, from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. and Sunday, October 19, 2014, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the historic site, located at 900 North Maney Avenue in Murfreesboro. Guided mansion tours will begin on the hour at 10:00 a.m. with the last tour departing at 3:00 p.m. Regular admission rates apply. Visit www.oaklandsmansion.org for rates and more information. The military demonstrations on the lawn are free and open to the public. Parking for the event is located on Roberts Street with event entrance at the pavilion. Middle Tennessee State University Homecoming Parade will also be in the area Saturday morning, so alternate routes may be sought during that time.

Flashlight Night in Oaklands Mansion

Wander through Murfreesboro’s most mysterious mansion as you explore some of the unusual mourning customs and creepy superstitions of the Victorian era at Oaklands Mansion. As the doors creak open and reveal the towns spookiest historic home, you will sure to enter with apprehension. Guides in mourning attire will be placed through-out the mansion to answer questions as you explore the dark corners and creepy cupboards. The shadows will be hauntingly dim. For your safety, please bring your own flashlight. This special evening opening of the mansion will take place on Saturday, October 18, 2014, from 7:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. with admission of $5.00 per person. After exploring the deep, dark corners of the mansion, join the 9th KY Volunteer Infantry around the campfire as they share stories and recount the day’s escapades. The encampment will be open to the public again on Sunday, October 19, 2014, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. as part of the Rutherford County Heritage Month activities. When you arrive please check in and pay at Oaklands’ Visitors Center located at 901 North Maney Avenue. You will then walk to the mansion to begin your tour!

Trick or Treating at the “Old Maney Mansion”

At the dead-end of North Maney Avenue you’ll find a tree-lined drive to the most famous mansion in Murfreesboro! The iron gates are open and the mansion, normally locked and secured, is ready to greet you on this rare night! Bring your little ghosts and goblins to the doors of the dimly lit Oaklands Mansion to offer their most haunting greeting. As the doors creak open to reveal the grand stair hall, and the family in mourning, you’ll see that this isn’t like any “haunted” house you’ve visited. Trick-or-Treating at the “Old Maney Mansion” is free, open to the public and will take place at the doors of Oaklands Mansion at 900 N. Maney Avenue in Murfreesboro, TN on October 31, 2014, from 4:00p.m. until all candy is given away!

Oaklands Candlelight Tour of Homes
Usher in the holiday season with this enchanting tour of historic homes. The annual Oaklands Christmas Candlelight Tour of Homes will be from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. The tour will feature beautiful and historic private homes as well as the graceful Oaklands Mansion. Set in the historic district of Murfreesboro, stops along the delightful tour will be festively adorned historical homes and churches, dressed in holly and evergreens. Additionally, living history demonstrations will be presented on the lawn of the mansion. Admission is charged. Contact: Oaklands Historic House Museum, (615) 893-0022.

The Award Winning Exhibit: Wedding Dresses Through the Decades

Wedding dresses from many decades will be on display in Maney Hall. Gowns, from handmade to couture, will be on display during this special exhibit. These elegant and fashionable wedding dresses were worn by ladies from both Murfreesboro and around the country. This is an excellent way to walk through the past and see the changes in fashions from different areas, times and cultures. Admission to the exhibit is $8 per person. Museum tours are available at regular rates.
