“WEDDING DRESSES THROUGH THE DECADES”

4th ANNUAL AWARD WINNING EXHIBIT PRESENTED BY

OAKLANDS HISTORIC HOUSE MUSEUM

Step back to yesterday and see the common threads that weave together the lives of women through the decades in middle Tennessee and across the country.   Enjoy traveling through time from the brocade and silk of the mid 1800’s to the stories and suits of the wartime brides in the 1940’s at the “Wedding Dresses Through the Decades” exhibit at Oaklands Historic House Museum presented in partnership with the Human Sciences Department of Middle Tennessee State University.

Once again, this exhibit will show all new gowns, dresses and suits that were hidden away in closets and under beds, now lovingly placed on exhibit to be on viewed in Maney Hall at Oaklands Historic House Museum from January 11 through March 8, 2015.  During this exhibit, grandmothers, mothers and daughters will have the rare opportunity to view items from, not only the museum collection, but also elegant and fashionable wedding dresses worn by ladies from Murfreesboro and around the country. Many of which have never been exhibited before.

“These treasured garments reveal stories and secrets of the past,” said Mary Beth Nevills, Education Director of Oaklands. “We look forward to sharing the hidden collections of Oaklands and others in the community with you.”

Witness the changes in fashion from different areas, eras and cultures as we transcend time to the modern day bride. The exhibit will be open Monday-Saturday 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and Sunday 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. You may also view the gowns by appointment, by calling 615-893-0022. Admission to the exhibit is $8.00 per person and open to the public. Group tour rates are available upon request. Museum tours are available at regular rates during regular museum hours.

An open house will be held on January 11, 2015, from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. in Maney Hall at Oaklands Historic House Museum with admission of $8.00 per person. Special evening openings of these elegant and fashionable garments will take place on select Fridays until 8:00pm.
